Chrysler PT Cruiser

Time for another post,

The Chrysler P.T. Cruiser

(credit: upload.wikimedia.org)
This is a good idea gone bad. It is supposed to look retro and classic, but just looks sad. Why does it come in a convertible? Convertibles are meant to be for Porsches or Lamborghinis, not any old car. Anyway, if you want a car that looks old-fashioned so badly, buy a Morgan. Also, let's not forget that Chrysler classified it as a light truck as an excuse for it's 24 mpg (highway) to meet CAFE restrictions. It also has horrible crash test rating, once again getting away with it because it is a light truck. In fact in 2009, a warning was issued because it was so unsafe. The P.T. Cruiser is also this weird cross of an SUV, a station wagon, and a compact car. This monstrosity doesn't look at all like a 30's fed car anyway.

Do you have any thoughts about cars? What drives you crazy? I welcome all respectful comments so keep it clean!

Bi-weekly posts, so stay tuned!

  1. Once again you have nailed it. Not a Fed car, not even close. In fact, Elliot Ness would probably have had anyone who drove this car arrested! !

  2. Wow! Spot on... I dislike that ugly thing on wheels. I agree that it is neither a retro or classic.
Do you think Al (Capone) got frustrated with this car, and went postal? Hmmm... something to think about

  4. Have you seen the Chevy HHR LT? That's worse (or as bad as) the PT Cruiser.

  5. First of all, real sports cars do not have removable tops. It is too dangerous. Second, even bad guys need a cheap car to rob banks. I think they were cute when they came out, but then again, I like El Caminos.

    2. That feature is to sell cars to people who don't understand racing or physics. I happily include a bucket of water with every computer I sell too. Don't confuse consumer sentiment with racing technology. Convertibles create wind drag. If you want to race in the wind, go Formula 1 where your helmet is part of the aerodynamics and the frame is designed to protect said noggin. Send a letter to Nascar asking them why they don't race chop tops. I would love to hear their reply.

    3. Yeah... that's a pretty good point, just to let you know a chop-top is a car with roof pillars that have been cut short

  9. Hey Kailas, I read through your blog and found your thoughts about the various cars very interesting. I must confess that I did not know much about the cars that you talked about but have now picked up some useful information. I like the name of your blog too - a great play on words! Keep the posts coming..

  10. When you get a chance, review the RAV4 EV. I had an original that had a whopping 78 HP! Drove it for 5 years every day and never changed the oil. Why not? Can you figure out why the A/C ran backwards?

    1. That is so horrible... the problem is it is not in production yet, so obviously is not popular.
